Free beta terms and privacy
These are plain-English terms for a free test version. A lawyer will review the full terms before anyone is asked to pay, and you'll be shown those terms and asked to agree before any charge.
Who's behind it
Adam Whybro, a music teacher in Long Bay, Auckland, trading as Music Tuition Studio. I built this for my own studio and I'm opening it to a small group of teachers to test. Get in touch at [email protected].
What the beta is
It's free until Term 1 2027 starts. From Monday 1 February 2027 it becomes a paid subscription at a founding price, which stays locked in for teachers who joined the beta. I'll tell you the price well before then. You won't be charged anything unless you choose to sign up and agree to pay. If you don't, nothing happens and your records stay yours.
It's a test version. It will have rough edges and it may have mistakes in it. Please check every invoice before you send it to a family, and tell me about anything that looks wrong so I can fix it.
Where your records are kept
Only in the browser you use, on your own device. Your students' names, lessons, invoices and notes are saved there and nowhere else. They're never sent to me or to anyone. I can't see them, and that also means I can't get them back if they're lost.
So please download a backup from Settings at least once a week, and keep it somewhere other than the browser. The app reminds you. On Safari, add the app to your Dock (Mac) or Home Screen (iPhone or iPad): Safari deletes a website's saved data after seven days without a visit, and adding the app stops that.
When accounts arrive, you'll be able to move your studio across from a backup file. Until you choose to, nothing moves.
What I collect about you
Through the app itself, nothing. There are no accounts, no cookies, no analytics and no tracking, and the app loads nothing from any other company. The pages are served by Cloudflare, which hosts them. Like any website host, Cloudflare sees the request for the page, including your internet address, but it never receives your studio records.
If you email me, or talk to me about joining the beta, I keep your name, contact details and what you tell me, so I can reply and so I can improve the app. I won't add you to a mailing list without asking, and I won't share your details with anyone.
Your privacy rights
You can ask to see or correct what I hold about you, or ask me to delete it, by emailing the address above. I'm the privacy officer for this. If you're not happy with how I've handled it, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in New Zealand (privacy.org.nz), or in Australia to the OAIC (oaic.gov.au).
Your students' information
The records you keep in the app are yours, and you're responsible for them, just as you are with a paper diary or a spreadsheet. Keep only what you need. The "learning needs" field is for health or learning information a parent has told you, and the app asks for the date they agreed to you keeping it. Families should know what you keep about their child. Here's a short note you can adapt and send them:
I keep a simple record of [child]'s lessons: when they are, who to invoice, and anything you've told me that helps me teach them. It's stored on my own device and I don't share it with anyone. Ask me any time to see it, change it or delete it.
If something goes wrong
The beta is free and it's provided as it is. As far as the law allows, I'm not responsible for losses that come from using it, including lost records or a mistake on an invoice. That doesn't take away any rights that the law says can't be taken away. You can stop using it at any time, and delete everything from Settings. I may end the beta, and if I do I'll give you at least 14 days' notice by email so you can take a backup.
Feedback
Anything you suggest, I may use to improve the app, for you and for other teachers. Thank you for testing it.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by New Zealand law.
